UCSD – Muir College Tamarack Apartments

The Muir College Tamarack Apartments presented the opportunity to complete the final phase of housing for this historic site. The cluster of academic, housing, and dining buildings have received acclaim and awards for design excellence since their construction in 1968-1972. Our design for Muir Apartments recognized the importance of a design that paid homage to the existing architecture while responding to a new century of students. The nine-story design captures many of the design features of the original apartments. Unique to this project is the first level common areas placing the apartment suites above the first level and away from traffic, creating a secure environment. The architectural concrete is exposed in many rooms and areas throughout providing opportunities to experience the architecture.
