Stewart Commons is located in the core of the historic Muir College at UCSD. The commons was designed in the Mid-century Modernist style in 1968. The challenge was the complete renovation of this two story project into a contemporary dining facility while respecting the architecture and heritage of Muir College. The design draws on many elements of the 1960’s while creating a visually vibrant experience including bringing more natural daylight into the space. Graphics oriented to nature and John Muir was employed to enhance the experience.
