Proprietary OTA Testing

Airgain has been evaluating wireless antenna solutions for 802.11-based WLAN routers, gateways, and set-top boxes since 2004. During this time, we have developed a set of proprietary performance metrics, measurement methodologies, and test conditions to enable measuring and predicting the relative Over-the-Air performance of 802.11 WLAN devices. The purpose of this benchmark testing is to provide an accurate assessment of the performance characteristics of each device to enable buyers to make informed decisions in selecting the best antenna product for their needs.

Airgain Automated OTA Test System

Airgain’s extensive OTA test process utilizes industry standard measurement tools and our proprietary implementation of the IEEE 802.11.2 Draft Recommended Practice for the Evaluation of 802.11 Wireless Performance. Each customer design is put through a series of distinct AP/Client link tests to measure the average TCP/IP Uplink and Downlink throughput at each link. Multiple independent, unique AP/Client locations are selected to provide relative throughput test results in high, medium, and low throughput environments. Key to this assessment is our use of a proprietary stop-motion turntable testing system at both ends of the link, which provides for the capturing of thousands of data points at each location and ensures accurate and repeatable results.

Airgain has established dedicated OTA test facilities in San Diego, CA, Taipei, Taiwan, and Shenzen, China, including residential and office test environments.
