Rachel Fast Receives the ASCE Oregon Chapter 2021 Young Engineer of the Year Award

We are excited to announce that Rachel Fast has won the 2021 ASCE Young Engineer of the Year Award!

In her four years with Murraysmith, Rachel has already made an impact on our transportation team. Rachel is recognized, within the transportation team, as a fountain of knowledge in transportation engineering, and has honed her skills to include sign design, striping design, ADA design, traffic control, and construction cost estimating.

While she is a self-proclaimed “troublemaker,” both her colleagues and project manager would say that she’s a joy to work with. The enthusiasm she brings to her work, along with her cheerful attitude have helped foster camaraderie within the transportation group. One of the many qualities that makes Rachel great at what she does, is her dedication to her projects. She is especially passionate about those projects that service the community and have a positive impact on the environment.

Rachel brings her enthusiasm for engineering inside and outside of the office. While she is a recognized as a mentor within the transportation group, she brings this same passion to ASCE meetings, engaging and encouraging new engineers to join meetings and events. Because she knows that these organizations bring opportunities to make connections—an essential part of engineering—she is a welcoming face in helping new members make the transition from their student chapters to professional chapters of ASCE. This contribution has been incredibly helpful in pushing forward the profession of engineering.

Recently, Rachel became the Webmaster for the Oregon Chapter. With her leadership, the website was renovated and was recently recognized nationally by ACEC as the “Best Website for a Large Section.” Rachel brings her enthusiasm and sunny personality into everything she does, and we are so delighted to see her receive this recognition!
