Murraysmith + Quincy Take On Kickball to Raise Money for Engineers Without Borders

For this year’s annual Engineers Without Borders Kickball tournament, many of our new faces showed up to play. While they may be rookies to Murraysmith + Quincy, they are not to kickball!

The event was on a cloudy day in Portland that was nonetheless filled with optimism and excitement. The Murraysmith + Quincy team brought their A-game, winning two of three games, even after losing runs to do-overs and bribes—a fundraising technique that allowed players to make donations to sway the referees’ calls, and even try plays over again in hopes for a better outcome!

Engineer’s Without Border’s Portland Chapter raised $16,653 in total, with $4,603 raised day-of through purchasing bunts, do-overs, snack and beverages, raffle tickets, and most importantly, bribes.

There was some tough competition against Parametrix in our first game where we ran into friendly face, Guy Horchy. Game two was a sweep by Farallon Consulting, who might be just as good at kickball as they are engineering. Finally, Murraysmith + Quincy barely held onto their lead over Avangrid in an eventful game that raised nearly $100 for EWB in bribes alone!

Thanks to our captain, Dan Ebbighausen, and to all participants for helping raise money for Engineers Without Borders, an organization that supports engineering projects that empower communities all over the world to meet their basic human needs. We can’t wait to play again next year!
