Meet Our 2018 Interns

Each year, Murraysmith offers internships in support of students looking to build their careers. We are proud to be a part of these formative experiences for our future engineers, collaborators, and leaders.

This summer we’ve had the pleasure of working with three interns across our Portland and Seattle offices and, if we’re lucky, we’ll get to keep them on the team after they graduate – it’s certainly happened before! Meet Nathan, Nick, and Nicholas:

Nathan Bemis – Seattle

Before returning to school to pursue a degree in civil engineering, Nathan traveled with FEMA providing aid in response to natural disasters. He comes to us with internship experience at both Idaho Power and the City of Moscow, Idaho. Nathan loves the collaborative process of creating infrastructure that supports communities, from concept to construction.

When not camped out in a computer lab at the University of Idaho, Nathan can be found (or not) in the woods enjoying the crackling of a good campfire.

Nick Lafrenz – Portland

This is Nick’s second internship through the CECOP program, and the first with Murraysmith. A civil engineering student at Portland State University, Nick is a member of our water team. He gets excited about any project that improves the health and safety of the communities we serve – no matter the size of the job.

A Gresham native, Nick likes to spend his off-time on the slopes of Mt. Hood, or raiding garage sales for coins and retro video games to add to his collections.

Nicholas Hannan – Portland

Nicholas joins our transportation team after a previous internship that really cemented his passion for transportation work. Nicholas studies civil engineering at Oregon State University as many others in his family have also done. In fact, his grandfather and great uncle founded the company that helped construct the Fremont Bridge!

Nicholas enjoys the variety of work at Murraysmith that allows him to work both from the office, and out in the field visiting a job site.
